ción de las pautas de preparación del intérprete
dedicado a este tipo de proyectos para concluir
con unas consideraciones finales.
En el prólogo, Alessandra Vita, intérprete profe-
sional, subraya que pese a la posibilidad de en-
marcar este tipo de interpretación en un ámbito
preexistente (si consideramos las características
objetivas del ejercicio), habría que considerar los
requerimientos terminológicos y el ámbito de es-
pecialización del intérprete a la hora de aceptar
un encargo de tales características.
Méndez González comienza haciendo un re-
paso del fuerte crecimiento del mercado de la
industria del videojuego y de cómo las diferen-
tes industrias y mercados fueron adaptando sus
productos a un público cada vez más amplio y
que requería de diferentes tipos de producto en
función de la población objetivo. A lo largo de
este recorrido, nos presenta el nacimiento de un
movimiento social que, más allá de poner a la
venta un juego, es el origen de toda una serie de
eventos destinados a la promoción y el afianza-
miento no solo del producto, sino también de
la marca y, en muchos casos, de la franquicia.
Con este planteamiento, el autor nos propone
el análisis de la figura del intérprete profesio-
nal de este tipo de eventos, considerando su
intervención como parte del proceso de pro-
moción y marketing, pero también como
agente de participación directa en un entorno
que engloba empresas, particulares y a un pú-
blico tremendamente comprometido con el
sector y base de las exigencias profesionales de
la marca.
Así, pues, expone los tipos de interpretación
más utilizados en función del tipo y la magni-
tud del evento a interpretar y presenta y analiza
varios ejemplos concretos exponiendo las ca-
racterísticas y necesidades específicas en cuan-
to a interpretación que dichos acontecimientos
requieren. En base a ello, propone unas pautas
a cumplir por parte de los intérpretes interesa-
dos en comenzar su andadura en este sector.
Del mismo modo, pone de relieve la figura del
jugador (gamer, jugón) como eje crítico que
ejerce no solo como destinatario sino también
como juez extremadamente exigente de un pro-
ducto cuyo nivel de detalle se asemeja al campo
médico. Así, expone las razones por las que este
campo es considerado un campo de especialidad
y por qué entre las características que debería re-
unir un profesional contratado para participar en
este tipo de eventos se encuentran: su dominio
del ámbito del videojuego promocionado (y,
según el caso, de la saga de la que forme par-
te), de los procesos de producción, desarrollo y
marketing, y hasta de informática y otros campos
vecinos. Y es que los asistentes a estos eventos
suelen hacer gala de un uso terminológico tre-
mendamente especializado y con grandes in-
fluencias del inglés.
En este sentido, el autor pone el dedo en la
llaga y cuestiona la idea preconcebida de que
la lengua inglesa pueda ser considerada la len-
gua original y por tanto predilecta para jugar a
ciertos juegos cuando el origen de éstos depen-
de de muchos factores, y más si consideramos
la época de globalización en la que vivimos y
la descentralización de la industria.
El punto de vista que Méndez González nos
presenta parte de la idea central de que, al igual
que en muchos otros ámbitos, el crecimiento
exponencial de este sector y la velocidad a la
que cambia el mercado nos fuerza a un pro-
ceso de adaptación y formación continua, y
por ello ofrece las conclusiones obtenidas en
primera persona tras varias décadas dedicado
a este sector como profesional, pero también
como observador.
Como conclusiones, Méndez González expo-
ne que, pese a la gran preparación de ciertos
intérpretes, la adecuación a este tipo de sector
requiere de la formación, pericia y experiencia
de un intérprete especializado y que comprenda
el funcionamiento de la industria y el nivel de
exigencia requerido por todas las partes, en-
tendiendo como destinatario final un públi-
co muy entregado y crítico que velará por la

de Shigeru Miyamoto, creador, entre otros, de
Mario, Legend of Zelda o Donkey Kong du-
rante el E3 de 2010 “Players are artists who
create their own reality within the game” (Nar-
cisse, 2010).
La lectura de esta obra resulta muy amena,
entre otros, gracias a la cantidad de ejemplos
prácticos estudiados y a la presentación de ca-
sos reales. Además, considerando el auge del
sector y el análisis pormenorizado presentado
tanto de los diferentes tipos de eventos como
de las características requeridas por la indus-
tria en cuanto a los intérpretes, esta obra sirve
de referencia para la iniciación a una profesión
que sin duda demandará cada vez más de los
profesionales. Se trata de un volumen que
acompañará a aquellos profesionales que de-
cidan adentrarse en esta aventura: “It’s dan-
gerous to go alone! Take this!” (Miyamoto &
Tezuka, 1986).
