El patrón de crecimiento económico y la pobreza en Colombia.
Keywords:
sectoral composition, poverty, pro-poor growthAbstract
The “hypothesis of the pattern of growth”, establishes that the sectoral and/or geographical composition of
economic growth affects the rate of poverty reduction, regardless of the total economic growth rate. This paper studies and confirms this hypothesis for Colombia, during the period of 2002-2010. To achieve this we follow the methodology used by Ferreira et. Al (2010) for the Brazilian case. We estimate a panel data
regression that relates poverty to different sectors of the Colombian economy. The results suggest the existence of large heterogeneities between departments and between sectors in reducing poverty through economic growth.
