Abstract

This review article presents the state of the art of thermally sprayed bioactive glass coatings. In this work, some relevant concepts about physicochemical characteristics and properties of bioactive glasses are explained; the synthesis methods of bioactive glass powders are also reviewed. This review article also reveals the efforts of the scientific community in recent years for developing bioactive glass coatings for orthopedic applications. A future perspective about research on this topic is also presented.

Professor CONACYT commissioned to CIATEQ A.C. Queretaro Unit, where he advances research issues related to the development of biocompatible coatings by HVOF-APS projection. Member of the SNI level I and the national laboratory CENAPROT. Experience in the use of different thermal spray techniques, especially high pressure cold gas spray, HVOF and plasma spray. Among his most relevant publications related to thermal projection, the works carried out in the development of amorphous metal coatings by cold spray and the deposit of ceramic coatings resistant to thermal shock stand out. Currently, his subject is focused on the development of biocompatible coatings mainly by HVOF, plasma spray and cold spray.
