Abstract

HA was synthesized by a chemical precipitation method. Calcium citrate and ammonium phosphate were used as precursors under an acid citric water-based solution. The solutions employed to prepare the HA differ in molarity, citric acid/calcium source ratio and Ca/P ratio. Using scanning electron microscopy and elemental analysis, the surface characteristics and Ca/P ratio of the powder were investigated. Phases and functional groups were identified by DRX and FTIR, respectively. It was found that more diluted solutions and higher citric acid/[Ca+2] ratio causes higher Ca/P ratios in synthesized HA and smooth surfaces.
