Abstract

The mineral ilmenite (FeTiO3) is an oxide of iron and titanium and abundant most common occurrence, and with theoretical composition of Fe (36,8%), Ti (31,6%), O (31,6%) and the colour features ilmenite iron, rhom
bohedral and hexagonal crystallization. The oxidation of mineral ilmenite is common and due to this, there occurs the transformation of Fe2+ to Fe3+. A crystalline form of ilmenite changes into an amorphous mixture FeO, Fe2O3 and TiO2, because of the weathering this process is very slow. This work shows a study on the main characteristics of the chemical and physical. Properties of ilmenite, being related by acrystallographic model of the mineral, and the ionic species in this sample. In this article the experimental techniques are used for characterization of X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS). The obtained sample, made by the technique of X-ray diffraction, has the concentrations of the compounds ilmenite 67.4%, 26,9% in PseudoRutile and 5,7% in Pseudobrookite. In close cooperation with Rietveld, it
became possible to quantify the refinement of the existing phases in the sample, as well as showing the peaks that match the pattern of dispersion in structures. The integration of obtained data from SEM and EDS was essential for the characterization of ilmenite.
