Physical Education and Gerontological Discourses

Authors

Abstract

The essay presents some reflections on the discourses that circulate about old age, aging, and the elderly in the field of teacher’s training in Physical Education, from the analysis of programs of gerontological subjects that belong to public institutions of higher education (university) and non-university level in Argentina. It is noted that the line of argument present in these documents corresponds to what was proclaimed by the biomedical paradigm of the 19th century. This results in the impossibility of generating a critical academic reflection that leads to the construction of an own theory for this disciplinary field, with the aim of removing erroneous preconceptions that reveal pejorative images about the elderly and that end up obscuring the old age stage and the aging process.
