An Approach to Football as a Leisure Phenomenon from a Humanistic Leisure Perspective

Abstract

This presentation centers around one of the most popular contemporary phenomena such as soccer. The theoretical approach is specified in a documentary analysis that leads to proposing the term leisure football, which is embraced in a current paradigm that is humanistic leisure, which understands leisure as a key unit for human development by influencing the well-being and the quality of life and its  improvement . Thus, in leisure football, regardless of being a spectator or a practitioner, you can have a special emphasis on the dimensions of autotelic leisure (the playful, creative, environmental-ecological, supportive and festive ones); as well as exotelic ones (productive, consumptive, alienating, harmful, preventive and therapeutic dimensions).
