ABSTRACT This article presents a crucial moment in the life of Don Quixote as a knight errant: the act of investiture. It begins with a tour of the literary references of chivalry that allow to understand this act in context, from wich it is selected two key moments: the slap on the neck and the kiss of the officiant, moments that are rewritten in a humorous tone by Cervantes, always taking into perspective the chivalry hypotext. Then, after some illustrations from various editions of Don Quixote (from the XVII century to the XIX century), which address this significant moment, it is intended to establish guidelines of the reading changes of Don Quixote in its first three centuries of success and difussion.Downloads
