Poetry was the literary genre that most interested the literary critic, translator, and colombian university professor Rafael Gutiérrez Girardot (1928–2005), occupying a prominent place in his intellectual work. In the field of Colombian poetry, from his first essay (“Fernando Arbeláez y Marco Fidel Chaves,” 1950) to his last (“Preliminar a Lector de poesía y otros ensayos inéditos,” 2005), his dedicated engagement is evident. This study aims to outline, through his writings, his role as a critic of Colombian poetry, focusing on his model of critical essay, which is based on a theoretical-methodological framework grounded in philosophy.
