The yield stress is the threshold value in which a suspension starts to flow. This value is important in ceramics industry to keep a control over formulation, transport and applications of suspensions. There are devices such as rheometers to obtain the yield stress, by means of techniques and special geometries. However, there are some other techniques such as the Marsh cone and the flume method. The aims of this work are study the foregoing techniques in kaolin suspensions and to compare results with those obtained from rotational rheometer. Finally, it is concluded that yield strength value obtained from flume’s method are near to the real values than those obtained by Marsh cone. However, the values for this latter test can be improved by the suspension parameters as the volume fraction, these parameters will be analyzed in future publications.
