A mixture of Al2O3 powders (80 nm) with 13% by weight of TiO2 (18 nm) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was prepared in suspension, which, was spray dried in a Toption TPS 15 equipment, obtaining granules with a particle size distribution between 5 and 25 μm. These granules were used to manufacture coatings by oxyacetylene flame spraying, with different volumetric ratios of acetylene and oxygen (1:1.7 - 1:2.5 - 1:3.2). The morphology of the agglomerated particles and the cross-section of the coatings were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, while the presence of the MWCNTs in both, the agglomerates and the coatings, was determined with Raman microscopy. The results indicate that the MWCNTs were encapsulated by the nanoparticles of Al2O3 and TiO2 that formed the agglomerates, preventing their degradation by the exposure to the oxiacetylene flame of volumetric ratio 1:1.7, which allowed carbon nanotubes to be present in the structure of the coating.
