ABSTRACT: The ideological aim of the traditional crime fiction novel is to bring trust to the new born nation-states. It pleads for restoration of a social order threatened by a criminal and takes rationality to a welfare level. It has not been possible to develop the traditional crime fiction genre in Colombia; this is due to particular socio-historical circumstances which have contributed to the emergence of a “new crime fiction novel” based on distrust and disbelief of the nation-states institutions.
