La propuesta de Mendívil en su obra El cambio lingüístico. Sus causas, mecanismos y consecuencias resulta muy interesante, ya que enfoca dicho cambio desde la oposición existente entre el generativismo y el funcionalismo.Desde el inicio, el autorse decide abiertamente por abordar el generativismo y explica detalladamente sus bases. Además, los planteamientos son atractivos y la forma de narrar es ordenada.
