.Abstract
En 1737 los jesuitas trajeron la imprenta al Nuevo Reino de Granada; en principio se utilizó para la publicación de hojas volantes, catecismos o novenas. Con la apertura de la Imprenta Real, dirigida por Antonio Espinosa de los Monteros, su uso se extendió a la edición de un par de sentencias y a la circulación del primer órgano periodístico en Colombia: Papel Periódico de la Ciudad de Santafé de Bogotá (1791),modelo inspirado en empresas similares llevadas a cabo en México, Lima y España. La labor se encomendó al entonces bibliotecario Manuel del Socorro Rodríguez, carpintero cubano, humanista y letrado. Junto a él, un conjunto de colaboradores y suscriptores aficionados al cultivo de las letras conformaron la Tertulia Eutropélica o Asamblea de Buen Gusto, espacio de sociabilidad cuyas discusiones sirvieron para llenar de con-tenido las páginas del periódico.
