Professional practices in health spaces: an experience from the School of Social Work of the University of Zulia

Abstract

This article explores the social worker training from the professional practices in community spaces and social projects of the University of Zulia. The objectiv was to reflect on the training of social workers from the teaching experience during the course of the class called Professional Practices in Community and Social Projects in the Area of Public Health in the years 2006-2008. The methodological approach was based on the insertion of LUZ professional practices, with emphasis on community spaces and social projects of the ETS, its theoretical, methodological and procedural elements; there were some experiences throughout the professional practice in Public Health area in the San Francisco municipality, in neighborhood Domitila Flores and Marcial Hernández in the Zulia state. As a result of professional practices in Practice Centers located in health institutions of the San Francisco municipality, it was obtained a total of 13 research papers with their respective proposals in different social intervention areas, in addition to 13 institutional diagnoses and the implementation of 35 social projects according to institutional guidelines and community needs identified, to contribute to the strengthening of teamwork and to deepen the relations between those involved in the process: academy, community, and health institutions.
