Abstract

This article discusses some aspects of the ethical-political dimension of social work, under the premise that every profession is a product of objective conditions and at the same time of the conscious activity of its professional agents. This last aspect justifies the importance of the subject, since professional interventions inevitably involve a moment of justification about what is considered good and fair. From a conception of ethics as argumentation and not as prescription, it traces some features of the discourses currently in force in social work, to conclude with some proposals towards the reconstitution of a critical instance for the profession in the current context.
