Abstract

It carried out the validation of a method for the extraction and quantification of the organophosphate fenthion in bovine milk. The measurement was done by gas chromatography with Nitrogen and Phosphorus (NPD) detector. The analytical method was selective for the organophosphate fenitrothion used as an internal standard and for the analyte of interest fenthion. Regarding the precision of the method, the coefficient of variation for the results of three injections of standards to the following concentrations 0.025, 0.0625, 0.125, 0.1875, and 0.25ppm was less than 5%. Percentages of recuperation were between 92.8 and 116% with coefficient of variation between 1.28 and 6.62%. The limit of quantification was 0.025 ppm of fenthion. Concerning the linearity of the method the coefficient of correlation for the ratio area of fenthion/area of fenitrothion (dependent variable) and the ratio concentration of fenthion/concentration of fenitrothion (independent variable) gave a correlation coefficient of 0.9996% and R2 of 99.92. This study showed that the analyzed method is an accurate technique for the determination of fenthion in bovine milk.
