Abstract

A  new  species  of  bat  of  the  genus  Carollia  Gray,  1838,  is  described  from  Colombia,  on  the  basis  of  22  specimens (holotype: adult female; 21 paratypes: 9 males and 12 females), captured in the southern, central, western and northernColombia, at elevation of 30 to 2660 msnm. The genus is restricted to southern México and Central and South America, and up until now, has included six species. This paper increases the number to seven species, five of which are known from Colombia. The new species differs from the others in overall coloration, coloration banding of the pelage, forearm length, shape and measurements of the skull, arrangement and shapes of the teeth, and shape of the ascending portion of the mandibular ramus. The new species is similar in some external and cranial measurements to C. perspicillata, but differs from it in skull shape, arrangement of the teeth, and size. The new species is one of the larger ones of the genus.
