Solanum americanum Miller has traditionally been used for the treatment of skin diseases and as an anti-inflammatory. In this work, phytochemical screening was carried out and solasodine and solanidine proportions were determined. Solanum americanum exhibited antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomona aureginosa, Salmonella typhimurium and Candida albicans. The aqueous aerial part extract showed wound healing properties. A significant uterine contraction was observed in aqueous green fruit extracts. The presence of saponins and glycoalkaloids are responsible for these pharmacological activities.
