Los protozoos son organismos unicelulares, generalmente microscópicos y ampliamente distribuidos en la naturaleza. La mayoría son de vida libre, encontrándose en pantanos, charcos, lagos, quebradas, etc. Otros son de vida parasitaria, de los cuales unos se encuentran en animales y otros en plantas.
