Abstract

The total extracts of marine sponges Xestospongia proxima and Xestospongia rosariensis were evaluated as antiinflammatorial; showing a significant activity in carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats. Also, was analyzed the inhibition of the liberation of the enzyme mycloperoxidase (MPO) and the catalytic activity of the elastase (ENH). Some extracts of Xestospongia rosariensis at 5.0, 10.0, and 25.0 pg/ml decreased the liberation of MPO.In addition, at 10 and 25 pg/ml hexane and dicloromethane extracts inhibited elastase.
