Research data policy

The journal Actualidades Biológicas promotes the publication of the research data of the edited articles. Therefore, it proposes to authors to add a new section in their articles, in which the data used in the research are declared. The data declaration section should contain:

  • Brief contextualization of the data used for the development of the research presented.
  • How the data were used and what other uses they could have.
  • Indicate the repository, the identifier assigned to that research data and the link.

Explanatory note

  • Articles with sensitive data can be deposited in repositories under licenses that restrict the consultation of these, to ensure that research ethics are not violated. A brief explanation of the data restriction should be included in the research data section of the article.
  • If third-party data are used, they must be cited correctly, following a specific citation format, and will be included with the rest of the bibliographic references of the publication.

Example of a bibliographic citation: Saiz de Lobado, E. & García-Delgado, B. (2022). Base de datos estudio hábitos de lectura y educación durante el COVID-19, Zenodo [Data set]. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.6539705

What is research data?

Research data include all documents other than the scientific publication, that have been used or produced in the course of the scientific research published. The data are used as evidence in the research process, or that are commonly accepted in the research community as necessary to validate the conclusions and results of the research. They can be: tables, figures, photographs, images, databases, biological records, species lists, sampling events, among others.

This journal recommends that authors deposit the data obtained from the research in repositories of recognized prestige that comply with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles.

Some of them may include:

Mendeley Data: https://data.mendeley.com

Figshare: https://figshare.com

Zenodo: https://zenodo.org

Re3data: https://www.re3data.org/

SiB Colombia: https://biodiversidad.co/

GBIF: https://www.gbif.org/

In the case of Universidad de Antioquia researchers, the data must be deposited in the institutional data repository https://datosdeinvestigacion.udea.edu.co/.
