In 2004, Cuartas-Calle reported the first record for Colombia of a small mouse opossum part of the former genus Marmosa, Micoureus alstoni (Mammalia: Didelphimorphia). This author based his identification and record on a juvenile specimen from Chocó Department. Based on the analysis of relevant literature and Cuartas-Calle's description and illustrations of that juvenile specimen, we conclude that this is not the first record of this species for Colombia, and the juvenile specimen reported by Cuartas-Calle can not be positively identified as Micoureus alstoni due to its juvenile stage
