Con paso breve y discreto avanza el reconocimiento de la obra del poeta colombiano José Manuel Arango (El Carmen de Viboral, 1937 - Medellín, 2002). Si preciso y humilde es su verso, la edición de su obra parece seguir un camino parecido. Ya un par de cuidadas ediciones al inglés y la traducción de secuencias poéticas a otras lenguas van dando cuenta fuera de Colombia de la hondura del poeta antioqueño. En España, con mayor eco que en Latinoamérica, su obra ha sido presentada en la antología de poesía hispánica Las ínsulas extrañas (2002) y, con singular mérito, por la editorial Palimpsesto mediante la antología La sombra de la mano en el muro (2002) y una edición de su Poesía completa (2009). Cabría pedir más y con más prisa, pues así lo merece la solidez con la que su poesía sobria y musical penetra en la presencia de las cosas desvelando el vivir de los hombres entre ellas. Sin embargo, la poesía de José Manuel Arango continúa acrecentando su presencia en la cultura colombiana. Y así, el Instituto Caro y Cuervo afronta la edición de su obra completa en dos volúmenes bajo la dirección de Luis Hernando Vargas.
