The aged facing the proximity of death

Abstract

This article points some aspects lived by the aged in their process of aging and especially at the proximity of death. It's based in a learning training experience in a nursing home in Medellín. In giving care to the old and a posterior bibliographic search it analysis some of their living experiences, considers aspects related with the process of aging and the views from the African and occidental cultures regarding the fact of death. It defines some altitudes and feelings of the old at the proximity of death, such as anxiety and fear, analysis the dilemma in choosing the best place for a good death and, finally considers the nurse's professional rol in this trascendental stage for every human being and especially for the aged.
