Abstract

Well-being and development have been traditionally conceptualized from a modern perspective, centered on economic growth. This paper aims to trace different conceptions of wellbeing from three approaches: the Western vision, development alternatives and buen vivir (good living), and the notion of Anaa Akuaipa or wellbeing in the Wayuu people. To this end, a stateoftheart review was conducted, analyzing how the concept of wellbeing has been addressed in each of these perspectives. The conclusion highlights the importance of understanding the Wayuu worldview and their own ways of constructing Anaa Akuaipa, which does not imply an absolute rejection of the hegemonic Western vision, but rather the possibility of weaving in dialogue the diverse dimensions that can contribute to the construction of a comprehensive vision of wellbeing among the Wayuu.
