Del territorio y la territorialidad al terreno: debates y reflexiones conceptuales
Keywords:
Territory, Terrain, Power, TerritorialityAbstract
This report provides an overview of conceptualisations of territory and its analytical relative, territoriality. Drawing on different authors, I present these categories from culturalist, power and relational perspectives. By articulating the analysis in these three frames, I seek to conceive of them as, and beyond, culturised space, or control, appropriation and surveillance, or node of relations that configure/articulate places of encounter. The report acknowledges the epistemological challenges involved in considering territory as process rather than outcome. With this in mind, and following the path traced by Stuart Elden, the final reflection proposes the conceptual use of terrain as a category that integrates geophysical materiality, legalpolitical and military strategy, and geographical imagination.
