Banda cambiaria y credibilidad en Colombia

En este artículo se presenta un análisis acerca de la credibilidad de la banda cambiaria como mecanismo de intervención sobre el tipo de cambio nominal. Partiendo de la hipótesis básica del modelo de Krugman (1991) con algunas extensiones recientes de Bertola-Caballero (1992) y aplicando la prueba de Svensson (1990-2), modificada al caso colombiano, se demuestra el grado de credibilidad de la banda cambiaria, implementada en Colombia a partir de enero de 1994. Dicha credibilidad se determina con base en las expectativas de realineamiento, determinando los factores que han incidido en su comportamiento entre 1994 y 1997.
