Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The manuscript has not been submited previously to another Journal
  • The manuscript should be submitted in Microsoft Word or TEX format
  • All figures and tables are inline with manucript's text and not at the end. All figures and tables are attached as complementary files with high quality resolution
  • The manuscript complies with all authors instructions
  • Authors must follow the instructions to ensure the manuscript is fit for blind review.

Author Guidelines

1. Scope and Editorial Policy

Lecturas de Economía is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes research articles in economics, focusing on economic and social issues relevant to Colombia and Latin America. The journal accepts theoretical, empirical, and methodological contributions, prioritizing research-based manuscripts. The publication is fully digital and open access, with no article processing charges (No APCs). Two issues are published annually, in January (January-June edition) and July (July-December edition). Manuscripts are accepted year-round.

2. Accepted Formats

Manuscripts can be submitted in the following formats:

  • Microsoft Word (.docx): Main manuscript text.
  • LaTeX (.tex): Recommended for manuscripts with extensive mathematical equations or computational simulations. 
  • Excel (.xlsx) or CSV (.csv): For tabulated data and supplementary databases.
  • PNG/JPG: For figures and graphics (high quality, preferably in vector format).

3. Cover Page

All manuscripts must include a cover page as a supplementary file, containing the following information:

  • Title of the manuscript in both Spanish and English.
  • Full name of the author(s).
  • Institutional affiliation (only the institution with which the author has a current affiliation and the type of affiliation; e.g., Associate Professor).
  • Institutional postal address and institutional email address.
  • ORCID of the authors (if not available, authors must create one).
  • Abstract in Spanish and English.
  • Keywords (minimum five) and JEL classification.
  • Acknowledgments and disclosures regarding research funding or prior dissemination of the manuscript as a thesis, working paper, conference presentation, etc.

4. Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should follow this structure:

  • Title Page: Title in Spanish and English, authors' names, institutional affiliations, institutional email addresses, and ORCID.
  • Abstract: A structured abstract (maximum 150 words) in both Spanish and English, summarizing the objectives, methodology, key results, and conclusions.
  • Keywords: 5-6 keywords in both languages, aligned with the American Economic Association JEL classification.
  • Main Text:
    • Introduction: Research problem, objectives, and significance.
    • Literature Review: Theoretical and empirical background.
    • Methodology and Data: Description of the methodological approach, data sources, and analytical techniques.
    • Results and Discussion: Key findings and interpretation in relation to prior research.
    • Conclusions: Summary of key insights and future research directions.
  • References: In APA 7 format.
  • Acknowledgments and Conflict of Interest Disclosure (if applicable).
  • Appendices and Supplementary Material (if applicable).

5. Manuscript Length

Manuscripts should not exceed 8,000 words, including the main text, footnotes, tables, figures, and references.

6. Statistical and Graphical Information

  • Tables and figures must be sequentially numbered and referenced within the text.
  • Data sources must be indicated below each figure or table; if self-produced, this should also be specified.
  • Equations should be consecutively numbered on the right margin in parentheses and formatted using Microsoft Word Equation Editor or LaTeX.

7. Editorial Process and Peer Review

  • All manuscripts undergo an initial review by the editorial team.
  • The iThenticate software is used to detect plagiarism and ensure originality.
  • Manuscripts passing the initial review are subject to double-blind peer review, evaluated by at least two experts.
  • The expected response time is 8-12 weeks from manuscript submission.
  • If there are discrepancies between reviewers, a third reviewer will be consulted.
  • Authors will receive detailed feedback and may revise their manuscripts accordingly.
  • Final publication decisions are made by the Editorial Committee.

8. Data Availability and Transparency

  • Lecturas de Economía promotes research transparency. Authors of empirical studies must provide a replicable dataset and analysis scripts.
  • Data should be deposited in open repositories such as Zenodo, Figshare, or an institutional Dataverse.
  • Authors may also share their code via GitHub or GitLab, ensuring a DOI for reference.

9. Citation and References

All citations and references must adhere to APA 7 format.

  • Direct quotations exceeding 40 words should be formatted as a separate block of text without quotation marks and in single-spacing.
  • The use of reference management tools like Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote is recommended to ensure consistency.

10. Digital Publication and Dissemination

  • The journal does not print physical editions. All articles are published digitally in Open Access format.
  • Each article receives a permanent DOI.
  • The journal encourages dissemination via platforms like ResearchGate, Google Scholar, ORCID, and social media networks such as Twitter/X and LinkedIn.

11. Ethics and Conflict of Interest Policies

  • Authors must disclose any financial or personal conflicts of interest related to their submission.
  • All manuscripts must be original and should not be under review in another publication.
  • The journal follows COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines, and suspected cases of misconduct will be addressed accordingly.

I authorize the University of Antioquia and Lecturas de Economía Journal, freely, voluntarily, explicitly, and unequivocally, to collect, store, use, circulate, delete, and process the personal data that I have provided or will provide, in accordance with the legally established terms, by virtue of using the University of Antioquia Journal platform.

Purpose of Data Processing

The personal data subject to processing will be used specifically for purposes derived from the use of the Open Journal System platform of the University of Antioquia Journals system, including:

  • - Editorial and administrative management of the journal.
  • - Communication with authors, reviewers, and editorial team members.
  • - Generation of statistical reports on journal activity.
  • - Compliance with academic and administrative processes.
  • - Dissemination of journal updates, calls, and academic events.

Data Subject Rights

In accordance with legal regulations, data subjects have the following rights:

  • - To know, update, and rectify personal data.
  • - To request proof of the authorization granted for data processing.
  • - To be informed about the use of personal data.
  • - To file complaints with the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce for violations of the personal data protection regime.
  • - To revoke the authorization and/or request the deletion of personal data when processing does not respect constitutional and legal principles, rights, and guarantees.
  • - To access personal data that has been subjected to processing free of charge.

Data Security and Confidentiality

The University of Antioquia implements appropriate security measures to guarantee the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of stored personal data. Personal data will not be shared with third parties without the explicit authorization of the data subject, except in cases permitted by law.

Modifications to this Privacy Statement
