This article aims at reading El hostigante verano de los dioses by Fanny Buitrago focusing on the relation between literature and history. The interpretation of the character Marina —a journalist— is based on the idea of a journalist like a speach guarantor. The general hypothesis is that the leading figure of the journalist, who has power enough to organize the sense of the narrative in the book, seems to be linked to the social power that the journalism and the journalist adquired in Colombia in 1920 and in the next decades, where he starts representing a person who is able to make a powerful speech, qualified to propagate social accepted truth.
