This essay is concentrated on the study of Pensamientos de un viejo, a book published in 1916 by Fernando González, and his unpublished notes entitled El Payaso interior. We will try to show that these works testify to a conversation with Friedrich Nietzsche, Arthur Schopenhauer and Baruch de Spinoza. We will examine the use of parables and aphorisms. Finally, we will stop to demonstrate that there is a subject who experiences an emancipation and, therefore, a break with the dominant traditional values. Our examination starts from the assumption that there is an intimate connection between what and how something is said.
