Abstract

This paper analyzes the inherent social and epistemological aspects of scientific practice and teaching of science. Specifically, this paper argues that science as a social phenomenon is generated and developed from the organization of scientific communities with common interests, beliefs, values, decision methods and several forms of discussion. It makes possible the generation of scientific knowledge. In order to achieve this purpose, it is necessary that science teachers get additional training with a solid epistemological
foundation provided by studies of science that have been developed by philosophy, history and sociology
