Abstract

Aim: Carry out a descriptive analysis of the relationship between sports practice and physical activity at an early age, at more advanced ages, in undergraduate students at the University of Antioquia, Colombia. Method: 100 undergraduate students from the University of Antioquia, aged between 17 and 30, were randomly selected. For the collection of the information, was used the Questionnaire for the analysis of the motivation and practice of physical-sport activity (Hellín et al., 2004), modified
in order to achieve a greater approximation to the specific characteristics of the study proposed. The results were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics and making use of the computer tool Excel 2010. In addition, the information was grouped in tables, in order to facilitate its analysis. Results: It was found that a greater percentage of the population practiced sport in school age. In
addition, there was a decrease in the practice of physical activity or sports as the age advances. On the other hand, the sports preferences of the surveyed population and some social and personal factors that may influence the continuation or desertion of sports practices in undergraduate students were studied. Conclusion: Although most of the students surveyed have been practicing a sport or physical activity since childhood, this is not the main factor in the continuity of sports practice at more advanced ages, recognizing that there are other variables with more influence, such as lack of time or the academic burden to do so.
