This article presents a study about user intention for the acceptance of digital libraries in Puerto Rico. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology was selected as a research model. This theory establishes that the intention of use is determined by four factors: performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence and facilitating conditions. This research was conducted in the Conrado F. Asenjo Library of the Medical Sciences Campus of the University of Puerto Rico. The quantitative approach was applied. The method chosen for data collection was the survey. The research subjects were students from the following programs: Nursing, Pharmacy, Medicine, Dental Medicine, Health Professions and Public Health. The study found that three of the main constructs (performance expectancy, social influence and facilitating conditions) of the theory have a direct, positive and significant effect on user intention in digital library users. The results show that the effect of effort expectancy on the intention was negative and not significant.
