Abstract

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education has great potential to improve various aspects, such as informed decision-making, automated research, and student experience. AI can help universities identify patterns and predict enrollment trends, as well as identify at-risk students and provide them with personalized support. It can also enhance the creation of personalized academic plans and learning management, for both teachers and students. However, it is important to consider that a high percentage of students in Latin America come from low-income households and have limited access to technology, which can affect their ability to take advantage of these AI benefits. Therefore, a comprehensive implementation of AI in education is needed that takes into account these inequalities and challenges, and issues such as cost and scalability, ethics and privacy, and lack of faculty AI expertise must be addressed.
