This study investigated the flux of total, volatile and fixed suspended solids in three contrasting climatic seasons (dryseason, transition season and wet season) in two sampling stations (dam and central zones) and at two depths (the photiczone limit and three meters up from the bottom) in La Fe reservoir. Sedimentation traps consisting of four PVC pipes withan aspect ratio of 7:1 were employed. Exploratory and descriptive analyses of the data were performed and three-way analyses of variance (anova) were employed to inspect for significant differences among the variables. Given that the four tubes comprising each sedimentation trap did not constitute true replicates, the values obtained from each were averaged prior to conducting the anovas. Electric conductivity, pH and total acidity values in each of the tubes of each trap were measured. Conductivity, pH and total dissolved solid values presented low coefficients of variation, implying low variability regardless of the sampling season, depth or sampling station. There were no significant differences among stations, seasons, or depths in the flux of total particulate, organic and inorganic material. During the low water period, a high mineralization of organic matter due to the “short-circuit” phenomenon occurred, and for this reason the highest percentage of deposited matter in the tubes corresponded to inorganic matter.
