Adaptación del Guppy Lebistes reticulatus al ambiente

Se investigó la adaptación de Guppys de tierra cálida y de tierra templada a distintos factores ambientales como temperatura y concentraciones tanto de sal como de oxígeno disuelto en agua.
Los Guppys de tierra cálida están mejor adaptados a temperaturas altas que los guppis de tierra templada.
Los Guppys aguantan concentraciones de sal disuelta en el agua hasta la doble concentración que existe en el mar, pero a concentraciones de sal por debajo de la concentración de esta existente en el agua dulce no sobreviven mucho tiempo.
Los Guppys viven en agua con concentraciones de oxígeno hasta aproximadamente 0.25 ml O2ll H2O si tienen la posibilidad de tomar oxígeno de la superficie. Si no hay oxígeno en la atmósfera, ellos mueren a una concentración de oxígeno disuelto en agua por debajo de 0.5 ml O2ll H2O.
