Abstract

In this paper we describe the chemical study of the dichloromethane extract of Simaba cedron Planch(Simaroubaceae) seeds. For the extracts preparation, ground seeds were full extracted with ethanol at roomtemperature; the solution obtained by this process was concentrated in vacuum until 500 ml of the total ethanolextract. This was further submitted to liquid-liquid partition using hexane and dichloromethane as solvents.Hexane and ethanol extracts were stored for further chemical studies. The dried dichloromethane extract wassubmitted to open column chromatographic separation (CC) using gradient from EP:CH2Cl2 (8:2) untilOEtAc:MeOH (9:1). 59 fractions were obtained and monitored by TLC. Crystals of a pure compound wereobtained from fraction SO-I-21B18A and its structure was characterized by conventional spectroscopic methods, such as, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPT-135, HMBC, HSQC, and NOESY, and by low and high resolution massspectrometry. The structure of this pure compound was established as the new C-19 quassinoid 1,4-dehirocedronolactone A.
