This work describes the standardization and evaluation of three analytical methods to quantify total phenolicsin 70% aqueous acetone extracts from twelve species belonging to the Melastomataceae family; a rich sourcein phenolic compounds, mainly hydrolizable tannins. The extracts were evaluated by UV-VIS spectrophotometryusing a direct method (280 nm) and the colorimetric methods of Folin-Ciocalteau (820 nm) and Prussian blue(700 nm), using gallic acid as standard.
