Constructions in Analysis as a Way of Approaching Subjectivity
One of Freud's Enigmatic Legacies Still Ongoing

This article presents an intertextual clinical-conceptual reflection from a psychoanalytic perspective on Constructions in Analysis, interrelating clinical concepts and positions, often divergent, that influence the ways psychoanalysts intervene in clinical practice. To explore this, three dimensions of subjectivity are used as frameworks: intra, inter, and trans. The article discusses both classical authors such as Freud, Winnicott, Wilfred Bion, Lacan, and Anzieu, as well as contemporary authors like Daniel Stern, Peter Fonagy, Tobie Nathan, Moty Benyakar, Christopher Bollas, and James Grotstein. Each of these thinkers has contributed, from their respective historical and cultural contexts, reflections on the understanding and approach to the unconscious. Despite the marked differences, it is argued that there are important convergent points for the practice and relevance of psychoanalysis in the 21st century, especially regarding the questions, limits, dilemmas, and challenges that the concept of constructions in analysis has raised. The proposals of Devereux and Nathan, stress that constructions in analysis are not only psychic but also cultural, suggesting the need to construct a coherent narrative that respects the constructive possibilities of the analysand, avoiding the imposition of external interpretations. Freud, in The Discontents of Civilization, emphasizes that symptoms do not only arise from the individual per se, but also from the tensions between social demands and individual drives, as well as from the interpretation made of the symptomatology. Finally, the article concludes by emphasizing the need to integrate the concept of constructions in analysis with the three subjective dimensions mentioned, along with other fundamental concepts such as countertransference, reflecting on the questions this raises in psychoanalytic practice.
