Abstract

This paper is a theoretical reflection resulting from a case study presented in order to obtain the postgraduate diploma in Clinical Psychology with Psychoanalytic Orientation from Universidad San Buenaventura, Cali (Colombia). Its purpose is to inquire about the relationship and the difference between maternal ravages and maternal insanity, terms that arise when analyzing a case in which the participation was as a psychotherapeutic companion in a school context. The hypothesis is that maternal insanity refers to the opaque jouissance of the woman behind the mother, and the maternal ravages to the subjective effects that the maternal insanity left in the child. In this journey, it is argued that, although maternal insanity and maternal ravages are not comparable, both are united as a symptom in the mother-child relationship, inasmuch as they correspond to the unlimited feminine jouissance and the precarious or non-existent function of a third party that could mediate between such relationship.

Psychologist, Pontifical Javeriana University (Cali-Colombia). Master in Psychoanalysis, University of Buenos Aires. Supervisor of the Psychosocial Care Clinic (CAPsi) of the Icesi University. Professor of the Psychology program at the Icesi University and the Faculty of Psychology at the San Buenaventura University (Cali-Colombia), an institution in which she also works as a teacher of the Specialization in Clinical Psychology with a psychoanalytic orientation and the Master's Degree in Psychology. Psychoanalyst member of the New Lacanian School (NEL) and the World Association of Psychoanalysis (AMP).

Psychologist, Universidad del Valle. Clinical Specialist with Psychoanalytic Orientation, San Buenaventura University. She has written articles for the magazine Nueva Escuela Lacaniana del Campo Freudiano (NELcf) and is a student at CID Medellín.
