Abstract

This study is the result of research on the social and epistemological mutations that conditioned the subversion of the Lacanian notion of the subject as a correlative of science and different from the conception of the individual. The study investigated the social conditions of the emergence of the modern subject understood as an individual. It also analyzed the epistemological change caused by the advent of modern science in relation to the split between knowledge and truth. Psychoanalysis operates with the subject of such a split and not with that product of modernity understood as the individual. In this context, psychoanalysis became possible as it works with the reintroduction of subjective experience into the field of knowledge.
