Abstract

On several occasions throughout his life, Leonel Estrada has argued that he never intended to act or be recognized as an art critic, but, rather, to develop through his writings a work of artistic dissemination and promotion and, especially, of new aesthetic currents. Based on this statement by Leonel Estrada, at least two issues of special interest can be raised when facing the reading of his texts on the subject. On the one hand, a concept of art criticism is revealed here that departs from the most commonly accepted views of his time and among theorists of his generation. But, on the other, at the same time it is present that the basic concern of Leonel Estrada is located in the fields of cultural management and education through art; and in that direction, it is clear that he has used the written word many times
