Abstract

Within this text I portray a set of reflections based on my experiences during an artistic residency focused in the phenomenological research of the scientific and poetic fundaments of ceramics. The course was led by the engineer Claudia Silva, director of Arte+Ingeniería production studio in Medellín, Colombia. This was a research/creation-oriented program in the field of visual arts, completely tailored to my specific interests. Beginning from the planetary processes that result in the formation of clay materials and the work in the ceramist’s studio, I further explore and find a strong relation with the poetic philosophy of Gaston Bachelard. This allows me to identify and expose the parallels between the cosmological processes and the experiences with the materials during the production of ceramics. The creative process through clay allows us the possibility to actively explore our intimate relationship with the cosmos, where we recognize ourselves as matter in the midst of our active universe.
