Abstract

This paper presents the results of the evaluation of company financial performance by
sectors in 2011. For this purpose, financial information of companies that reported their data in
this period to the Superintendencia de Sociedades in Colombia was taken. These companies were
classified in six sectors, according to their economic activities: agriculture, mining, services, industry,
commerce, and construction. Both analysis of macroeconomic context and techniques of financial
analysis about financial information grouped by sectors were taken into account to carry this study
out. The results show that agriculture is a weak sector whereas mining lives a positive moment, as
well as services and construction sectors do. This situation could lead to a problem in the future for
the country’s economy, because of the inadequate distribution of investment in its economic sectors
