Edenic Landscape and Pristine Nature in Sail Ahoy!!! ¡Vela a la vista!, and The Spirit of Persistenceby Hazel Robinson Abrahams: Two Ways of Recuperating a Colonized Island

This paper focuses on Sail Ahoy!!!(2004), a novel by islander writer Hazel Robinson Abrahams, and on several iconographic and ethnographic products, all of which make part of an ethnological education project that includes this novel. After the political and historical context of tensions between San Andrés and Colombia are situated, an analysis of the way how the island and its history are represented in the novel and also in one of the catalogs used in the ethnological education project. Then, the underlying posture of Hazel Robinson in this project is analyzed, in terms of his desire to reinventing a narrative of identity of the island recurring to the modes and costumes before its colonization as way of resisting the presence of Colombia and the colombians in the island.
