Todavía, por desgracia, es frecuente encontrar en revistas culturales colombianas falsas afirmaciones sobre el desinterés de la minoría lectora del siglo xIxpor las obras literarias. Por ello es muy grato constatar el arrollador esfuerzo investigativo que se viene realizando para evitar este tipo de generalizaciones erróneas, basadas casi que exclusivamente en el desconocimiento. El grupo de estudio conformado por Carmen Elisa Acosta Peñaloza, Carolina Alzate Cadavid y Azuvia Licón Villapando ha estudiado la revista La Mujer (1878-1881) con un doble objetivo: en primer lugar, para darla a conocer al público lector del siglo XXI por medio de una rigurosa labor de antología, y, en segundo lugar, para realizar un trabajo crítico orientado al análisis de la incidencia que tuvo dicha revista, dirigida por Soledad Acosta de Samper, como medio de expresión de un proyecto político y educativo orientado específicamente al género femenino que en ese tiempo era considerado simplemente como “bello”. La directora de La Mujer se revela como una verdadera pionera en la promoción de la autodeterminación del sujeto femenino y la participación de la mujer en los procesos implicados en la conformación de lo nacional, cuyo norte siempre fue la imperiosa necesidad de la educación de la mujer para el logro de tales objetivos.
