Abstract

In this article, we analyze the representation of motherhood in La Perra (2017) by Pilar Quintana. Our hypothesis assumes that, in this novel, there is an operation to dismantle the social mandates to which women are subjected if they wish to be considered authentic mothers. These mandates are oppressive for them, even worse if they are updated in contexts of poverty that generate extreme reactions in women, among which the emergence of violence can be recognized. We conduct our study based on the theoretical contributions of Adrienne Rich, Cristina Palomar, Massimo Recalcati, Jacqueline Rose, Orna Donath, Judith Butler and Byung-Chul Han.

Richard Angelo Leonardo-Loayza, National University of San Marcos

Federico Villarreal National University. Doctor in Peruvian and Latin American Literature from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. Master in Cultural Studies from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Master in Peruvian and Latin American Literature from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. Diploma in Gender Studies from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Degree in Literature from the National University of San Agustín (Arequipa). Founder and director of the Latin American Literary Studies Group "Antonio Candido" (GELLAC). Coordinator of the Research Group on Literature, Gender and Culture (LIGECU) of the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences of the UNMSM. He is a professor at the Department of Literature at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos and at the Department of Literature at the Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal. Speaker at national and international events (Bogotá, Cartagena, Santiago de Chile, Valparaíso). He is the author of The Letter, the Image and the Body. Essays on literature, cinema and performance (2012) and El cuerpo mirado. The Afro-Peruvian Narrative in the 20th Century (2016, 2017). Editor of Poetics on Black: Literature and Other Discourses on the Afro-Peruvian in the Twentieth Century (2013), Word of Black. 9 Sieges of the Afro-Latin American Narrative (2015) and Sobre la piel.
