Rhetorical resources, literary motifs and the literary reconfiguration of the past for critical purposes serve as elements that allow us to prove the presence of a counter-hegemonic discourse in The Autumn of the Patriarch. This perspective is confronted with Enrique Krauze’s views, in order to contribute to the closure of a literary discussion sparked by the work’s complex character and by the political actions of its author. Hayden White's reflections will serve to demonstrate how the nature of the historical narrative is destabilized in the work.
