Review of Vista desde una acera, by Fernando Molano Vargas

La lectura del libro Vista desde una acera de Fernando Molano Vargas es posible gracias al “impulso de archivo” (en términos de Hal Foster) que llevó a su amiga Ana Cox a encontrar el manuscrito entre los documentos de la Biblioteca Luis Ángel Arango, en Bogotá. Cuenta la leyenda que Molano ganó el Primer Concurso Literario de la Cámara de Comercio de Medellín en 1992 con su novela Un beso de Dick, escrita luego de que su pareja muriera de sida y mientras cuidaba a su madre moribunda. Gracias al éxito del libro, en 1995 recibió una beca de creación de Colcultura (actual Ministerio de Cultura de Colombia) para terminar la novela en la que estaba trabajando. Molano era portador de VIH y, en aquel entonces (todavía lejos del cóctail de antirretrovirales que convertiría al virus en una enfermedad crónica y no en una sentencia de muerte) sabía que tenía los días contados. En 1997, poco antes de morir el 10 de abril de 1998 y para cumplir con los requisitos de la beca, entregó un borrador corregido del libro. Esos papeles permanecieron en el Ministerio hasta 2004, cuando fueron enviados a la Biblioteca Luis Ángel Arango, donde Cox encontró el manuscrito y se puso manos a la obra para que la novela fuera dada a conocer. Antes de ver la luz en 2012, el texto de Molano fue corregido y establecido por David Jiménez, su antiguo profesor y amigo.
